2003 ISPB Illinois Fireworks Annual Survey
In June of 2003, the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness contacted optometrists, ophthalmologists and hospital emergency rooms state-wide to take part in its annual fireworks survey.

Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness will appear every week on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 4:55 as part of the Hotline 21 series lineup on Chicago Access Network Television (CANTV).  The thirteen-week series will have its first show on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 and will run through Wednesday, March 31, 2004.  Viewers are encouraged to call in with their eye health questions -- (312) 738-1060. Dates, topics and guests to be announced.
 
November 4, 2003
The Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness will celebrate its 87th Anniversary at a Gala Dinner and Silent Auction on Tuesday, November 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hotel Inter-Continental in downtown Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.

The Fall 2003 Visionary is on-line.  This issue includes: 2003 ISPB Research Grants, Tips for Using Hand-Held Magnifiers,  Take A Loved One to the Doctor Day, Tips for an Eye-Safe Halloween, Research Updates, Toy Guides and Alerts for the Holidays, November — American Diabetes Month, and as always Remembrances and Quick Tips.

Chicago Access Network Television (CAN-TV) and ISPB will present a fifth series of shows (Hotline 21 - live, call-in broadcast) to be aired every Wednesday for thirteen weeks, starting July 2, from 4:30 p.m. until 4:55 p.m. Viewers are encouraged to call in with their eye health questions -- (312) 738-1060. Dates, topics and guests to be announced.

Funded Research (2003). Each year, the ISPB funds several research seed grants for studies relating to the prevention of blindness. The request for submission of grant proposals were sent to Illinois education/reasearch institutions and other interested parties last January, with a deadline date of April 30, 2003. Recipients for 2003 to be announced.
 
May - June 2003

The Discovery 2002 - Low Vision Conference will be held at The Congress Plaza Hotel, 520 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, September 26 - 28, 2002. The ISPB is founder and co-sponsor. The conference is designed to bring together people with visual impairments of all ages, their families, rehabilitation professionals and vendors. Participants are encouraged to register by August 25, 2002.

Don't Lose Sight of Diabetic Eye Disease Approximately 10.5 million people with diagnosed diabetes have some form of diabetic eye disease. In fact, if you have diabetes, you're at increased risk for blindness. So, at least once a year, get a dilated eye examination in which drops are used to enlarge your pupils. This allows your eye care professional to see more of the inside of your eye to check for diabetic eye disease.
