A Message from the Executive Director

As the new executive director of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness, I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to our updated website and to share my commitment to ISPB’s mission. --Donna J. Dreiske, Executive Director |
ISPB was established in 1916. With such a long history it would be easy for an organization to rest on its laurels and institutionalize its activities. Fortunately, ISPB has not done that but has shifted with the needs of the times. As I look to the future I see us becoming more dynamic and even farther reaching.
We are facing a critical time. With chronic diseases on the rise, a significant population aging and increased life expectancy, over 3.4 million Illinois residents are impacted with some form of vision loss, eye disease or blindness. The economic impact is monumental estimated at over $2 billion every year.
Unfortunately, these numbers are predicted to double over the next 30 years. Vision loss is slow and insidious. We must act now if we are going to deny this trend and preserve sight.
I hope you find our website helpful and encourage you to look at our wide range of programs.
May you enjoy healthy vision for your lifetime.
