Bloomingdale CHARACTER COUNTS!SM Coalition

On behalf of the ISPB, Jim McKechnie, Executive Director, was pleased to accept from Sonia Menon the proceeds from the Bloomingdale CHARACTER COUNTS!K Coalition Charity Walk.

Sonia, a sixth grader from DuJardin School, won the essay contest that determined which charity would receive the proceeds.

Her essay included information on the importance of eye safety and how much she had learned from the ISPB’s EYE SPY Program she had participated in as a fourth grader, two years earlier.

One of the things that made a lasting impression on Sonia was that you should never carry a pencil with the point up. You could damage or lose your eye.

The ISPB presentation was given at the Celebration Program on October 17, 2000, along with seven American Youth Character Awards to students in the Bloomingdale area deemed as role models for their generation.

The ISPB was especially honored to be selected as the recipient and to know what positive influence the EYE SPY program has on fourth graders in Illinois.
