Eye Tips for Joggers and Walkers

Just as joggers and walkers need the right shoes for their sport, they also need the right sports eyewear, says the American Optometric Association (AOA).

Here are some eyewear and eye care tips from optometrists who specialize in sports vision.

  • Wear wire eyeglass or sunglass frames with adjustable nose pads.
  • Choose frames with temple pieces that curve around the ears or with detachable headbands.
  • Select frames that hold large lenses and have thin rims, thin temple pieces and a face-formed shape.
  • Choose sunglasses that screen out 75 to 90 percent of light and block 99 to 100 percent of the sun’s UV-A and UV-B (ultraviolet) radiation.
  • Consider polarizing lenses.

Consult with your eye care professional if you wear contact lenses or have any other questions (Source: “Eyewear And Eye Care Tips For Joggers And Walkers,” AOA News Release).
