Quick Tips
LOW VISION AIDS TO CONSIDER:
- Clear house of clutter, especially on stairs and in hallways.
- Install solid handrails on stairs, especially on right side and make
sure there is proper lighting, with light switches available at top and
bottom of stairs.
- Install grab bars in shower, tub and toliet areas.
- Use bath mats with suction cups or nonslip adhesive strips in shower
or tub area.
- Eliminate or replace rugs or runners that tend to slip or attach
nonslip backing to the rugs.
- Change medicine cabinet doors to sliding ones.
- Use big button telephones and keep all emergency numbers in large
print near the phone and/or program the numbers in the telephone memory.
- Purchase large backlit display or talking Caller ID with Call
Waiting capacity.
- Purchase large print or “talking” personal watches and clocks for
your home.
- Purchase a bold large print keyboard for home computers.
