LOW VISION AIDS TO CONSIDER:

  • Clear house of clutter, especially on stairs and in hallways.
  • Install solid handrails on stairs, especially on right side and make sure there is proper lighting, with light switches available at top and bottom of stairs.
  • Install grab bars in shower, tub and toliet areas.
  • Use bath mats with suction cups or nonslip adhesive strips in shower or tub area.
  • Eliminate or replace rugs or runners that tend to slip or attach nonslip backing to the rugs.
  • Change medicine cabinet doors to sliding ones.
  • Use big button telephones and keep all emergency numbers in large print near the phone and/or program the numbers in the telephone memory.
  • Purchase large backlit display or talking Caller ID with Call Waiting capacity.
  • Purchase large print or “talking” personal watches and clocks for your home.
  • Purchase a bold large print keyboard for home computers.
