ISPB 87th Anniversary GalaThe highly successful ISPB 87th Anniversary Gala was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at the Hotel-Continental Chicago, with over 200 in attendance. Each attendee received the ISPB’s publication entitled Our Eyes and Vision Loss /Information and Resources (2003 edition). SYMPOSIUMThe events of the day started with a State-of-the-Art Symposium, moderated by Walter M. Jay, M.D., ISPB Vice President and noted neuro ophthalmologist at Loyola University Medical Center.
Presentations were given by Rick Ahuja, M.D. and Philip B. Dray, M.D., Chair of the Division of Ophthalmology at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County on “Current Research at Stroger”; Charles S. Bouchard, M.D., Chair, Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Chicago/Stritch School of Medicine on “Stem Cell Research”; Lee M. Jampol, M.D., Chair, Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University/Feinberg School of Medicine on “Macular Degeneration: The Present and The Future”; Mathew MacCumber, M.D., Ph.D., Department of Ophthalmology, Rush Medical College of RUSH University on “Current Ophthalmic Research at RUSH”; Kourous Rezaei, M.D., Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, The University of Chicago Hospitals on “Blue Light Toxicity” and Jose S. Pulido, M.D., Chair, Department of Ophthalmology, The University of Illinois at Chicago on “Research Updates at UIC.” A Question and Answer Session followed. Following the Symposium, presenters and guests gathered in the Grand Ballroom for the Reception, Silent Auction and Dinner/Evening Program. The highly successful Silent Auction included more than 150 donated items, i.e., a seven-day cruise, dinner and theatre tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, art work and collectibles, items for children. Proceeds from the Gala — including outside donations earmarked for the gala — will help to expand the Society’s programs. Pictures at the event were taken by photographer Bill Reichart.
