AFB Evaluates Top Cell Phones for Accessibility

Some of the top cell phones on the market have been evaluated by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) for accessibility to visually impaired consumers.

The AFB suggests that when you are shopping   for a cell phone, look for the following features that are advantageous to persons who are blind or  visually impaired:

  • Keys easily identifiable by touch;

  • Voice output for menu navigation, as well as battery roaming and message indicators;

  • Voice output for reading contacts listed in the phone book feature;

  • The availability of accessible documentation for instruction manuals on the company’s Web Site or in Braille.

For the AFB evaluation findings, visit www.afb.org/accessworld or contact the ISPB office.
